Inspired by refugee gypsies (Bohemians), Boho Chic is also heavily influenced by hippie styles of the 60’s. In ’04 Vogue girl of the year Sienna Miller appeared at the Glastonbury festival and sparked a fashion conflagration. Coin belts, long white dresses, hobo bags, and Uggs. The style has not so much been going out as evolving. For example, in ’08 Boho Chic got more bright and colorful.
I think the longevity of Boho Chic is due in part to the thrift-shop effect.
While this obviously doesn’t appeal to everyone, there are always enough people out there who appreciate comfort and a bargain to keep the style going, especially in a down economy heavily populated with baby-boomers who were in their prime in the era that inspired Boho Chic in the first place. Lately it seems to be keeping pace with an earlier time, evolving into the 70’s, and while it has faded out of the spotlight, it seems to have too strong a following to actively go out of style.
Mix in some modern with the vintage. It’s the difference between a new take on a classic look, and just looking old and dated:
